Our Mission
CCCA delivers diverse, high-caliber live musical performances with an educational component to Carlsbad and Southeast New Mexico.
CCCA aims to continue serving Carlsbad and the surrounding area by providing unique opportunities for all ages to connect through a shared love of music.
Our Vision
Student outreach
CCCA proudly provides free outreach programs to students, providing them a forum to interact with culturally diverse, world-renowned musicians, artists and performers with the intent to inspire a lifelong appreciation of the arts.
Organized in the spring of 1943 by a group of culturally minded residents, the Carlsbad Community Concert Association (CCCA) has endeavored to bring world-class live entertainment to the Carlsbad area for 79 years. The 1943-1944 CCCA Concert Season sparked the inspiration for this organization to continue for decades with endless support from patrons.
How It All Began...
Our History
1943-2020
In the early years, CCCA’s subscriptions topped over 1,000 adults and students, including group subscriptions from local corporations, businesses, and civic organizations. This traditional support has been maintained throughout almost eight decades by the hard work of the volunteer-run organization, Board of Directors, and the loyalty of our subscribers, donors, benefactors, and patrons.
Recovering From COVID-19
The effects COVID-19 had on the world are indescribable, and unfortunately, the CCCA was not immune to these struggles. With the cancelling of a highly anticipated 2020-2021 concert season, a longtime leader and friend of the group moving on to bigger and better things, it seemed the Concert Association may not last another year. The dedication of longtime board members and donors, and the appointment of the organization’s first Executive Director, CCCA came back to life in 2022 with the performance of Jason Lyle Black at our home stage of P.R. Leyva. As Jason struck the keys of our beloved Steinway, the music struck a chord with the community, bringing in one of the largest crowds the organization had ever seen in its many years of existence.
Looking to the Future
The continued support from our longtime members and donors, as well as the new life and fresh perspectives of a younger generation of concertgoers and leadership, has made the 2022-2023 concert season a huge success. The newly created Executive Director position operates under the guidance of the CCCA Advisory Board, ensuring the CCCA will continue to meet challenges head on and ensure this beloved organization lasts at least another lifetime. Current goals of the organization include procuring more fine instruments to house at the newly renovated Cavern Theater and the Carlsbad High School Performing Arts Center currently under construction to ensure more access to music for years to come.
Our Greatest treasure
In 1946, the US Potash Company generously donated a nine-foot Steinway grand concert piano to the Carlsbad Community Concert Association. It is, by far, the organizations most treasured possession. The Steinway has been coveted by the professional pianists who have played it. Our beautiful concert piano lives securely at its home of P.R. Leyva Auditorium.
Advisory Board
The CCCA Advisory Board is made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds, skills and interests. Some of whom either attended the concerts as children or had relatives who served on the Board which inspired a legacy of service. Other Advisory Board members are new to the concert business, but come to us with inspiring ideas and hope for the future of CCCA. All Advisory Board members, regardless of affiliation, do so out of their passion for music, live performances and a commitment to community service. The Carlsbad Community Concert Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
Artist Selection
For most of the early years, the performing artists were contracted through Community Concerts from New York City. In 2003, CCCA partnered with Live On Stage, Inc., an entertainment service organization out of Nashville TN, which provides an outstanding artist roster from which some of performances are selected for the upcoming season. Live On Stage, Inc. has granted our organization a level of support to concert associations across America in their commitment to bring the ‘best of the best’ in live entertainment to these communities.
This season, we were lucky enough to be connected to The Liberty, Inc. based out of Roswell, New Mexico. The Liberty, Inc has provided us with local New Mexico talent and artists that have truly enhanced our offerings to the community.
